MityVac pumps are excellent quality hand-operated and easy to use vacuum pumps that are a time-tested product, designed for automotive testing. Both models have a built-in vacuum gauge, a quick vacuum release lever, use a 1/4" ID tube and have easy one-hand operation. Both the plastic and metal body models are made in the same general physical design.
The differences are as follows:
The Mity-Vac Standard model ( MVAC1 ) has a plastic body. This is the
utility or home-user version of the pump. The advantage for pumpers is
total corrosion resistance. The disadvantage is that the plastic handles
can fatigue and break at the pivot point if used to pump large volumes
of air. Because of this potential, we recommend this pump for use with
penis cylinders, where the volume is suited to the durability of the
pump.
The Mity-Vac SilverLine ( MVAC2 ) has a cast metal body, and can provide both vacuum and pressure via a quarter-turn selector knob. This is the commercial or auto mechanics version of the pump. The advantage for pumpers is tough construction, the handles will not break in heavy use. The Silverline model also has a slightly larger operating piston, thus it displaces a larger volume of air per stroke than the plastic-body model. The disadvantage is the potential for corrosion- if you draw water or water-based materials into the metal body and don't clean the unit, the interior cylinder surfaces can corrode, and that will destroy the pump. This is a maintenance and cleaning issue. Properly maintained, corrosion is not a problem. Because of the durability, we recommend using this pump for larger volume cylinders.
PumpToys does keep a few replacement plastic handles on hand, which you can order by email. Mity-Vacs are not manufactured by PumpToys, and are warranted only by the manufacturer. Mity-vac has as excellent warranty and parts service agent with a web site at this address: http://www.mityvacparts.com/
NOTE- pumps do not come with vacuum hoses or male couplers. A complete system requires requires a pump, a cylinder, a vac hose, a male coupler, and lubricant. Also buying a cylinder? See our starter kits to get these pumps as part of a complete system.
